Last Sunday when the weather was actually nice for once in Edinburgh (unlike the torrential downpour happening yesterday), I dug out our picnic basket that we got as a wedding gift, packed it full to the brim with snacks and prosecco and hiked up to Calton Hill with Charlotte for a fun day in the sun.

Honestly, having this picnic basket has totally revolutionised my life (not really, but maybe just a little bit). I grew up in Stockholm where whenever we had a chance my friends and I would pack plastic bags full of food and have blankets sticking out from under every arm as we waddled to the nearest grassy patch in a sweaty mess hoping we hadn’t forgotten anything. Picnic baskets just make everything so much easier- all your food, condiments and drinks are in one place, you don’t have to pack along extra paper plates and plastic cutlery, will never forget salt because a picnic basket has an ACTUAL SALT SHAKER INCLUDED!!!!, it also has a bottle opener and most importantly, looks fancy AF.

We spent the afternoon chatting away, taking photos, sipping on our drinks and finally helping a lost dog who stole our baguette find it’s owner (spoiler, the owner had fallen asleep with several cans of beer next to him and was super disoriented when we woke him up to return his Dalmatian to him lol). I can’t wait for more sunny days spent like this, especially during the Fringe when town is too unbearable due to the crowds. Summer, I like you. Please come back and stay forever.
