One day, I was happily scrolling on Instagram when I came across a photo of a coffeeshop called Hyde & Son. It looked airy, it looked cool, it looked almost a bit minimalistic, a touch of Scandi maybe? I thought “ah, this isn’t in Edinburgh. If it was, I’d definitely have found it by now.” BUT IT WAS. IT IS. In Edinburgh.
Heart racing, I sent out a text to my friend Daniel and we made immediate plans to go and grab a coffee there the following morning. I couldn’t sleep that night, tossing and turning with thoughts of delicious coffee…right, I’ll stop overdramatizing, even though it’s what I do best hehe. Basically I was just happy to find a new coffee spot, that’s all.
Anyway, Hyde & Son is a fairly new (opened in June) bar slash coffeeshop located on George Street. I’m also pretty sure it’s either a part of a hotel or located in the lobby of one. Ah, imagine walking through this space on your way out of your hotel 😍 I wouldn’t say it’s massive but the high ceilings and the way the furniture is laid out gives it a really spacious feel. Even though we only had coffees and didn’t try out any of the pastries (from 12 Triangles and Grams, btw!) I have nothing negative to say. The coffees were great, the chairs were comfortable, the spot was Instagrammable & most importantly, the light. It was so light and bright and wonderful that I felt like a cat sunbathing. I’m desperate to go back in the evening sometime and see what it’s like as a bar.
Anyway, enough with the rambling, I’ll just let the photos do the talking.
